Missing You
Separation…
Weizhou was sure that he never hated a word more…
Carefully he put his finger on the map of China that was open on his phone. The distance between Beijing and Chengdu looked like nothing. Maybe half a finger. But reality was more cruel. 1500Km between them. He sighed and rubbed his hands over his eyes. He felt so tired. But he knew that he wouldn’t be able to sleep right now. It didn’t matter how exhausted he was. Something was missing. Or maybe someone…
Weizhou shook his head and got up. He couldn’t just sit here and wait. Nothing would happen tonight. No phone call, no touch, no kiss….
Jingyu had been in Chengdu for maybe a week now and Weizhou hated every minute of it. He was so used to having Yu around. Hearing his laugh, smelling his cologne, feeling his warm embrace. And now… He was lucky if he would get a couple of texts here and there. They even managed to squeeze the rare phone call in. But it was nothing compare to having him here. To feel him, to touch him…
Weizhou sighed again and made his way over to the front door. He couldn’t sit here and wait like a love sick puppy. Jingyu was working, for god’s sake. He was not on holiday. Zhou knew that Yu wanted to be here with him. He missed his little tomcat the same way that Zhou missed his whale.
But somehow this thought just made things worse for him…
He put on his shoes and left the flat that he had shared with Jingyu for the last couple of months. It was nothing special, but it was their safe haven. Where they were allowed to be themselves. Free, together…
The night was never dark in Beijing. Too many lights kept the night sky in a bright orange. There were some clouds in the sky which made the colour just more vibrant. It had started to rain in the afternoon and it didn’t look like it would stop anytime soon. Weizhou smiled. It was the perfect match for his mood right now. He felt like crying, and somehow the raindrops took this urge away. The sky cried for him. He shook his head again. Yu would mock him so badly for this thought. “You are so corny, man…”
The rain got worse by the minute and Weizhou decided to take shelter in one of the many pubs along the way. Beijing certainly didn’t have a shortage of places to drown one’s sorrows.
It was quiet dark inside. Some guys were sitting at the bar, sipping their beers, holding tight to their bottles. Weizhou looked for the most hidden spot he could find and sat down. Normally he didn’t mind the fans and being recognised, but tonight he just wanted to be alone. Drinking and feeling sorry for himself.
He ordered some Baijiu and after he asked for the third shot the bartender just left the bottle with him.
Weizhou didn’t know when this had started. He felt almost pathetic for missing Yu so much. He had always been a very independent person. He had friends, good friends and he loved his family, but due to his job he was used to seeing everyone who was near and dear to him just here and there. But with Yu it had been different right from the beginning. Zhou blamed it on the fact that their shared a bed right from the start. He just couldn’t sleep without this warm body next to him. It was plain impossible.
He took another swing and the liquid burned down his throat. In the background he could hear people talking but he didn’t really register anything. His thoughts were with Jingyu. He wondered how his day had been.
“Did he miss me? Did he even think about me?” He knew that these thoughts were silly. He knew that Jingyu loved him, but somehow he felt so defeated tonight that even these thoughts reared their ugly head.
His mind started to spin and suddenly he was not so sure that drinking was the answer to his melancholy. He paid and left the bar.
The rain had settled down to a slight drizzle. Weizhou didn’t mind it. Somehow it felt like the raindrops cleared his head. He didn’t even try to hide from the rain. The water slowly ran from his forehead and he tried to catch one of the drops before they fell into his eyes.
Only when he started to shiver he noticed that he was absolutely drenched. He looked at his phone and noticed that it had been an hour since he left the pub. Also: No messages from Yu.
Jingyu was doing promo work for his new movie and Weizhou knew from experience how stressful these promo tours can be. You were lucky if you would be able to catch three hours of sleep let alone have long conversations with your significant other via phone.
Once more he hated the Chinese regime for being so homophobic. Other actors were at least able to take their spouses with them. But in Zhou and Yu’s case they were lucky that the regime just turned a blind eye to the open secret of their relationship.
It sometimes felt like they paid quiet a high price for this but they both loved their work so much. They knew what would happen if they refused to play by the regime’s rulebook. It had almost destroyed their careers once and neither of them was willing to risk it again.
It was not so much for their own career that they worried. But both know how important work was to the other and they didn’t want to be the reason why the other wouldn’t be able to work anymore.
Weizhou pull his jacket closer around him, but it didn’t really matter anymore. He was soaked and the cold snuck into his bones. For a second he closed his eyes and imagined Yu’s close embrace. He would scold him for being so stupid. Runnig around in the rain, getting soaked.
Suddenly an image shot into his head. Yu rubbing over his head with a towel. Zhou could almost feel his hands in his hair. Smell his cologne and feel the heat that always radiated off his skin. It felt like a lifetime ago. The set of Addicted. Weizhou having to walk through the rain for god knows how long. It was one of the first moments that Weizhou knew that there was something different about Jingyu. That he was special…
He opened his eyes again and the need to feel Jingyu almost took his breath away. He took his phone out of his pocket and dialled the number he already knew by heart. Zhou didn’t care that he might disturb Jingyu. He just needed to hear his voice. Just for a second…
But there was no answer… The phone was off. “Fucking idiot” Weizhou muttered under his breath.
He decided to finally make his way back home. He was shivering now and all he wanted was a hot bath and maybe putting on Jingyu’s T-Shirt again. Weizhou would have never admitted it to Jingyu, but somehow being able to smell him, made the yearning a bit more bearable. “When did I become such a girl…” Weizhou laughed to himself.
The elevator up to the apartment seemed to take forever. His jacket and jeans were glued to his body and Weizhou just wanted to get out of these wet clothes. A faint ping announced his arrival on his floor. He slowly walked over to the front door. He looked again on his phone but still no messages from Jingyu.
Weizhou fumbled with the keys to the front door and finally managed to open it while still holding his phone and trying to call Jingyu again.
Suddenly he could hear a familiar ring tone inside the flat. Weizhou raised his eyebrows. What?
He opened the door completely and there it was. Very clearly and loud. Jingyu’s ringtone… But how?
Weizhou quickly kicked off his shoes and his wet jacket and ran into the living room. It was empty. Just a tiny phone on the mantle made some noises. Jingyu’s phone. Zhou went over to inspect it and yes, it was absolutely Jingyu’s phone. But where was Jingyu?
“Are you looking for something?” The dark voice behind Zhou startled him. He turned around and there he was: Yu…
Weizhou could feel his heartbeat quickening. And before he even knew what his feet were doing he jumped into the arms of the taller man. He buried his head into Yu’s shoulder and took in his smell, his warmth, everything that was quintessential Jingyu… Zhou could feel some tears pricking behind his eyes, but he swallowed them. Yu was here. No need to cry.
“Miss me?” Jingyu’s voice was low and yet it vibrated through Weizhou’s whole body. He just managed to nod silently.
“Cat got your tongue?” Yu laughed while he gently caressed Weizhou’s back. As a respond Zhou just hugged him even tighter, but there was still no answer…
“Well, can you maybe explain why I am holding a wet cat in my arms?” Jingyu seemed amused and finally Weizhou lifted his head and looked him directly in the eyes. It still took Yu’s breath away. Every time the younger would look at him like this. A smile appeared on Zhou’s face.
“Well, better a wet cat then a wet dog.” Jingyu rolled his eyes and gave Zhou a slight nudge.
“You are such an idiot.” Weizhou’s smile disappeared and suddenly the young man looked very serious.
“But I am your idiot…” He sighed and Jingyu couldn’t do anything but kiss him with all the pent up passion of the last week.
“Why are you here?” Weizhou’s voice was breathless.
“Well, I didn’t pack enough underwear and I needed to get some more…” Jingyu grinned his special smile for him. But Weizhou knew him too well. He knew his cocky exterior. He knew his Jingyu….
Weizhou slowly caressed Jingyu’s cheek and looked into the black eyes of the older man. A tiny smiled crept onto his face.
“And why are you really here?” Jingyu closed his eyes and now it was his turn to hide his face in the shoulder of the other one.
“I missed you… I missed you so much. And when Chan Li said, that we are going to take a three days break, I just knew that I had to come home. I have to go back on Friday.”
Weizhou smiled into Yu’s black hair and pulled him a bit tighter.
“Friday, eh?” Zhou drew slow circles over Jingyu’s back.
“This means three nights with your snoring again?” Zhouzhou grinned.
Jingyu’s head shot up and he glared at Zhou. “You little brat…” Suddenly he began to tickle the smaller man and Weizhou tried his hardest to escape the death grip of his boyfriend.
“Just stop, stop…” Zhou tried to reason with Yu inbetween breaths but Jingyu didn’t give in.
Suddenly Weizhou managed to lower his head onto Jingyu’s neck and blew some raspberries. In shock the older man let go of Zhou and tried to remove his head from his neck. Zhou anticipated that and suddenly bolted to the bedroom door.
Jingyu stood dumbfound in the middle of the living room. “You brat… Just wait…”
Laughingly he ran after his tomcat… He was home…
