Short’N’Sweet: The Lost Ring

Hello, hello, hello, my lovelies…

Today is rather exciting for me as i am posting a blog in a series i never have taken part in until today: Short’n’Sweet. But when Ash asked around who was willing and interested in taking over a slot, I had this one short movie flashing up in my mind and of course I had to say yes.

Because this was actually the first ever BL related content I watched coming from Vietnam. I just came off my Addicted high and was looking for more and more BL content and this little gem just decided to come across my way. And what can i say? It impressed me enough that even after almost three years, I still remember it. But as always I am prattling along… So let me get down to the nitty gritty, shall I.

Brief Summary

Cot is a sweet guy. As a student he works hard next to uni to have enough money to pay for his classes. Since he is extremely diligent and organised working as a housekeeper is perfect for him. If only his good looking employer Quan wouldn’t be such an annoying prick…

Since it’s a short movie, i am not gonna explain more about the plot. Otherwise what’s the point of watching?

My Thoughts

This little short movie didn’t invent the wheel. But given the time it was produced it is actually not half bad. The storyline is sweet and funny and has just the right amount of drama in it. With 33 minutes it is actually really short but I am still impressed how much story and emotion they managed to cram into these 33 minutes without making it seem crowded.

The story flows really nicely and the way they used little tricks of the trade to explain major content with just a few pictures or glances really impressed me.

I also totally fell for Cot as he is literally the best. The way he is rolling his eyes at Quan’s actions time and time again is such a mood and I adore him for not being a pushover whatsoever. I honestly wouldn’t mind seeing these two in a proper show or movie. But since this short is already a couple of years old, I don’t think we have much luck here.

But yeah, it might not be the most creative storyline in the world, but it’s sweet and it makes me smile. I am usually not asking much more of a show or a movie, so I am totally cool with things just being the way they are. But let me stop here, because otherwise I will just give away the whole plot in a minute.

Overall

Rating

7,5 out of 10

(But i’m an over critical bitch sometimes)

Do I recommend it?

Absolutely. Especially if you are interested a bit more in BL history.

Would I rewatch it?

Stupid question because I already have rewatched it a couple of times and im sure i am gonna watch it again if the mood strikes me.

Where to Watch

Youtube is our friend once more and thankfully the production company was nice enough to put it on there themselves. So happy legal watching.

Conclusion

As i said above it might not be the most creative plot in world history but given the time and place it’s from it is actually a really cool and cute short. I immensely enjoyed it and yes, it being my first ever vietnamese short (or movie or show), I was rather surprised how much i liked it. I would absolutely encourage you to give this one a try. And if it’s just down to historical curiosity.
