WTH: Active Boys

Yes, I confess that a picture of akiss was the reason why I wanted to watch this show. Both guys in that picture were absolutely my type of guy and the kiss was HOT. Yes, I am a shallow person and I never dared to say something else.

But let’s start at the beginning. The story of this one is practically Vietnam’s answer to Slam Dance but with music and basketball instead of dance and wrestling. The funding for the music club is getting slashed because the basketball team needs more money. Rest assure that there is a fight going on between these two clubs and also rest assure that the president’s of both clubs fall in love along the way and get together and yada yada yada… We know the drill…

These two are actually really cute together and there is nothing wrong with this part of the show. It’s well written and it’s cute.

But for the side pairing… Oh boy…. I have no idea what happened here! Did some body snatchers from outer space kidnap the original writers and then replaced them with some serious mentally deranged people? That’s the only explanation I have for this mess.

And again I will try to explain myself a bit better (yes, my horses are running away from me, please bare with me. I am just really peed off about this. Like seriously).

The side pairing is Dhung, who is part of the music club and Tan, who is their teacher (yes, you see where we are going)… I mean, normally I don’t mind the whole teacher/student thing too much. I am not a fan as I still think that it’s not romantic but extremely creepy for a teacher to start having feelings for one of your kids AND act on it, but heyho… Let’s go with the flow here. Both are cute, so let’s see what happens.

And right from the get going it starts to be a Desaster: Tan is the driving force here. He invites HIS STUDENT for some coffee, before taking him home with him. Yes, he takes him home!!! To input some data for him (okay, that’s what the young kids these days call it… :-p).

And while Dhung is there working for him, this bloody arse has the nerves to take a shower and get out of his bathroom in just a towel!!!! There are laws against this kind of behaviour and rightly so. But the director or whoever thought that this storyline was a good idea, wants us to find this extremely romantic as he is lovingly staring at Dhung who fell asleep on Tans laptop. NO, this is not romantic, this is creepy AF!!!!

Okay, this goes on for a whole and Dhung actually is more mature about the situation then his bloody teacher. He really is a sweetheart.

As you can see, I am already pretty agitated as it is. This SL is a mess and I start to really hate Tan’s guts, but as they say: it’s not over until the fat lady sings… So I am still giving them a chance! (Yes, them being cute and their making out being hot might have a slight, itsy bitsy tiny part in this… *Cough*)…

And here it comes: my moment of absolute rage. Tan asks Dhung to talk to him on the rooftop of the school of a places (it really seems that he wants to get fired very badly). There he confesses to Dhung that he (Dhung) looks like Tan’s former lover who left him (and who in their right mind can blame him??? All you want to do is yell: Run, little Dhung, run as quickly as you can!!!!) and Tan therefore can’t let Dhung go…

I mean, I have seen a lot of twisted crap in my times but hello??? You are an adult, you are his teacher and you are trying to use him as a replacement for your ex? Are you absolutely mental? What do you think he will do to you now that you confessed the truth? Fall into your arms and be yours forever and ever???

And I couldn’t me more proud to say that Dhung doesn’t do it. He leaves Mister Kreepyhead behind telling him that he doesn’t want him, but just his ex back. I never cheered harder then with this rejection. At least someone here seems to have some form of brain capacity.

But to stop me ranting before I get some form of a stroke, let me end by saying that this show is really cute and well done. The main characters storyline is great and there is also a hetero couple there that is really cute.

But I really don’t get what they tried to do with this sidecouple. It’s just creepy and wrong and as much as I love Dhung actually shooting him down, I don’t get the reason behind the plot on the first place.

It just looks like a very romantic (creepy, wrong, disgusting… I mean, these words ARE interchangable at all, right) take on forbidden love, but somehow it falls incredible short. If the reasoning behind Tan’s behaviour would have been different, if it would have been Dhung pursuing Tan, then it would have been a different story. But the way they did it, just completely ruined this storyline for me.

And here you can see: the devil is in the detail. Just a few tweaks here and there and this would have been potentially absolutely amazing. But they just bombed it. They bombed it hard!!!!

Just because we BL are a bit crazy, doesn’t mean, we don’t have a moral compass that is still working and intact. And we are not going to let everything happen just because we can watch two cute guys snog. We are not THAT easy. 😉
