10+ Things I Hate About You: Leaving The Lights On 

Hello, hello, my friendly Misfits, 

And welcome to another instalment of “10+ Things” I hate about BL. And today I have a topic with me that absolutely makes my blood boil when it happens in BL. Because it’s so stupid and unrealistic and it just… Ah, well, I am starting early with my rant today. Lol. So maybe I should explain first what I am even going on about. 

And that’s leaving the lights on in BL. 

I am not sure if you also have noticed this annoying, pesky, little detail but in a lot of BLs you will actually see people going to bed with the lights still on! And I am not even talking about a small night light on the side. No, I mean the big overhead lights and the room being lit up like a freaking christmas tree. 

Who in their right mind sleeps like this??? 

Yes, I am not stupid, contrary to popular opinion. I know the reason why the light stays on is to make filming easier and to make us able to really see what happens. But just dim down the light a bit. Make it clear it is supposed to be night and these guys are supposed to sleep (or do other things you also usually don’t do under flood lights). So why not just put the lightning a little bit in the right direction??? 

Or am I completely wrong here and there are people on this planet who seriously sleep with the overhead lights on? Because if you are one of these strange creatures please talk now or be quiet forever. 

But yeah, just forgetting to at least dim down the light is one of my absolute pet peeves. I know it’s utterly ridiculous that it can annoy me so much but for me that’s like a sure fire way of getting me out of the illusion that the show is trying so hard to create. It’s really just a tiny detail but in the end it’s the tiny details that can make an okay show an outstanding one. 

So please, dear BL producers of the world… Please, turn off the lights. For us, for our boys and for some easy to achieve realism.
