Hello, hello my friendly Misfits
And welcome to a new series of our beloved Content Team. I already said it before, but it can’t be said often enough: Content Team really has big plans for this year and I can already tell you that from next week we are gonna bring you blogs on every single day of the week. This is literally my dream for Content Team becoming reality and I can’t thank this crazy team enough to make this happen.
So welcome to our newest baby in our series collection:
“Did You Know…?”
In this series we’re gonna present you every Sunday a tiny nugget of random BL knowledge. Some bits and pieces are gonna be more obscure and random while some might be more common knowledge. But I really wanted to do this series for a while now and I think there are enough little bits and bobs around to make this an intriguing new series for us.
But since this series is gonna be focusing on passing on knowledge in tiny parcels I can’t keep yammering on forever here and should really bring you the fact of the day.
So Did You Know….
…, that Nuengdiao’s title, he gets addressed with, literally means Mister Mouse?
Sounds funny, doesn’t it? But it is actually true. Let me explain.
Nuengdiao in Never Let Me Go is getting addressed by the staff of the house as Khun Nu. Khun means “you” in Thai, but also Mister. Like when you want to address a person formally. If you would like to say Mister Gabe for example, you would say Khun Gabe. So now let’s move over to Nu. Nu actually means mouse. But it’s also used in Thai to make something smaller and cuter. Little girls for example often refer to themselves as nu because it sounds so cute.
So if you would translate Khun Nu word by word you would end up with Mister Mouse. But in reality it means Little Mister, or Master as in this case. Not sure if I like Little Master a lot more if I would be an adolescent boy, but hey… I grew up when we still had Fraeulein in German (way to address a woman that is not married and literally means little woman). So I know the pain. Lol.
And this is already it. Our little “Did You Know…?”. I hope this first part of the series gave a bit of an overview of what to expect from this one and I hope you find the bits and bobs of knowledge we’re gonna use in this series as fascinating and interesting as we do.
