Hello, hello my friendly Misfits,
And welcome to another episode of “Heart ranting to her heart’s content”. This one is definitely gonna be one of the more silly things that annoy me, but heaven’s it still annoys me so much. Everytime this comes up I can’t stop myself from yelling bollocks at the screen because it’s just not right.
But what is this crazy lady even talking about? Cat’s meow? She clearly can’t be annoyed because a cat is meowing. Who would be annoyed by that?
HA! I would be annoyed. I AM annoyed.
I am a proud cat mommy to four beautiful tomcats. I had cats living with me for the last 22 years. I am really the poster child for a crazy cat lady in the making. So I know a thing or two about cats. You definitely can believe me on that one.
So seeing the huge amount of cats right now in our shows is a bit of a two sided coin for me. Because on one hand obviously I can’t get enough of cats and I am so happy that cats seem to make their ways into the hearts of the Thai nation. But on the other hand I am not really the biggest fan of how these cats are getting treated in these shows. A lot of the ways they are handled are just not really okay for me and I hate it when I can see in the cat’s body language how much they hate being on set or being handled.
Well, this suddenly took a dark turn. I actually just wanted to complain about something else, but I guess this part also was weighing on my mind heavily. So I apologise for this little detour. Because this was not the silly thing I wanted to complain about. But I guess it’s okay to just voice something real for a minute here as well, before jumping back to silliness.
And this silliness is definitely the cat’s meow. And yes, I am talking literally here. I am talking about the meowing of cats in shows. I know, i know, it’s totally crazy and silly to be annoyed about something like this, but it does annoy me so much. You can see the cat didn’t make a peep, but suddenly from the off there is a loud and totally random meow coming. It’s a meow that doesn’t fit the cat, it doesn’t fit the situation and it just doesn’t fit.
Cats use their meow to communicate with humans and please believe me when I say that every cat has their own voice, their own way of meowing and specific situations when they just can’t seem to shut up. But it’s all not the situations shown in our shows. So yeah, just randomly hearing a meow out of seemingly nowhere while the cat just looks around, not moving their cute, little snout or anything… It makes me go bananas.
I mean, if you want to include cats, then just don’t give them a speaking role. It’s like this bad dubbing job back in My Engineer where they gave Ryan, handsome, slightly angelic Ryan, the voice of a 50 years old chain smoking truck driver. That’s literally the equivalent we are talking about here. Well, in a way it’s even worse as they are trying to dub a cat that doesn’t even move their mouth. How do people think cats make a meowing sound? In their stomach? Bitch, they are not ventriloquists. And if your cat is one, then please go to your local “XYZ Got Talent” audition as I am sure a cat with such incredible talent would astonish the world and you would make millions.
So please, dear show makers. Can you please get an expert for cat care on your sets and make sure the kitty is happy and not stressed? And if they have to meow for dramatic reasons, at least don’t use the same meow from Freesound.
