Hello, hello, my lovely Misfits,
And welcome to another part of me ranting my life away. I am sure one tiny grey streak of hair was caused by me ranting again, but hey, I do everything for my art. Lol. And today I am coming back with a topic that must not just annoy me to death. In a way I am sure it also annoys our actors to death, well, hopefully just figuratively.
Because I am talking about the obsession, especially in Thai series, to put our actors in woollen clothes like they are about to hike up the Matterhorn in late autumn. I am not sure if people have noticed this. But the weather in Thailand is freaking hot. Like you wanna run around in flip flops and a bikini and have to shower twice a day hot. And this doesn’t even change much over the year. They don’t have the change of seasons like we do. They just have hot, a bit more hot and hot with rain. That’s their three seasons (yes, Thailand officially just has three seasons, that in itself I find so incredibly interesting). And in no season the temperature goes down below 20 degrees usually. So what the feck is going on with all these jackets, cardigans, pullovers and so on. And a lot even made out of freaking wool.
I recently saw Perth giving a QA about the BL scene in Thailand and one of the questions the fans asked him was about exactly that. How can actors survive in these extremely warm clothes when the weather is so hot? His answer: We just endure.
And I can completely understand that. I mean here in Germany we get the first people in short trousers by March or April when the temperature has just risen short above 15 degrees. The first chance people get here they lay around in the parks with their tops off and as much nakedness as publicly is seen as okay. So that’s the environment I am coming from. And it was even worse while living in the UK as men especially would just take their top off the first moment they could sniff a ray of sunshine through the clouds. And don’t get me started about Aussies and their love for running around without socks.
But yeah, me coming from this side of the globe I just can’t watch our poor boys having to sit in their own sweat and not even being allowed to take their jacket off. When I saw one of the last episodes of Step By Step I pretty much wanted to jump into the frame and help poor Up out of this awful jacket, he was not even allowed to take off while he was eating hot soup. And I don’t even like Up in that show and would rather he runs around in a proper skiing outfit so it’s getting harder for Pat to get his paws on the man.
I honestly don’t understand why this is still portrayed like this. We all know we are talking Thailand here. Not Japan or South Korea where they even have snow. So them being all bundled up with a scarf, big jacket and a hat makes sense. But no, for Thailand… It just is pure ludacris to me.
So free poor Thai actors from the shackles of the woollen jacket before one unfortunate soul dies of a heat stroke.
