Hello, hello, my fellow bookworms,
And welcome to another part of Manga Magic. Last time we had a manga I didn’t read for ages due to the fact that I didn’t like the cover. And today we have pretty much the entire opposite way around as I pretty much just bought this manga for the pretty cover. But it seems that covers really shouldn’t be my way of looking at things as it just doesn’t seem to work. But I am rambling again, so let’s just start.
Today’s manga is
Barefoot Angel
By Ito Nonomiya
What Is It About?
When shoemaker Turner finds a strange guy sitting alone in a park on a winter’s day the first thing he notices is the fact that the strange boy doesn’t wear any shoes. So he does what his kind heart always does: he brings the boy back to his house to take care of him. But it doesn’t take long for Turner to understand that his guest indeed is something special: He is an angel who just fell out of grace with the Heavens and therefore must now live his life on Earth as a fellow human.
Why Did I Buy It?
As I said above I honestly liked the cover quite a lot. It’s a beautiful drawing of our angel and it just intrigued me. I also found the topic of a fallen angel different and fresh, so I decided to give it a go.
Age Rating?
It’s 16 plus and it has a few spicy scenes in it but they are really just far and few inbetween. So definitely more tame.
How Did I Like It?
And here we go. I actually didn’t like this one a lot. I don’t know. It was too much talking about the nature of humans for me and the way our angel also behaves is a bit too childish for me. I know that’s rich coming from me. But somehow this manga and I didn’t really connect properly. I can’t even explain why. One thing I noticed I hated disproportionately was the fact that they used English names instead of Japanese. Funny how something so trivial can annoy me.
Final Impression?
The drawings are pretty, the setting in itself not too boring, but somehow the finished result left me a bit cold. It’s really this special something that is missing for me here. So maybe you would totally love this manga if you read it. But for me I think it’s gonna be one of these mangas that just stand in my cupboard looking pretty. I don’t think I will reread it anytime soon. And that’s just pure down to boredom on my part.
How Many Pink Milks?
(Zero Pink Milks mean “no fluff at all”, five Pink Milks mean “you gonna die of diabetes”)

How Many Chilli Peppers?
(Zero Chillies mean “not even a kiss”, five Chillies mean “don’t read in company”)
2
How Many Hearts?
(Zero Hearts mean “hated it with a passion”, five Hearts mean “totally loved it”)

Oi, this is definitely the worst ranking I have given to a manga just yet. That’s a surprise. Let’s just hope that next week’s manga is more my taste and something that gets me more excited. Until then I hope you can enjoy some quality time with a good book.
