Hello, hello, my friendly Misfits,
It’s Thursday and that means we are having another Gem for you. And gosh, this time I really struggled finding something nice and old and somehow fluffy… because I am currently in an utter fluffy mood and I think we all can do with some fluffy clouds and some rainbows. No sun btw. Because we have here in Germany enough sun for a few planets. At least that’s what it feels like. Lol.
But in the end I succeeded and found something nice and slightly old and extreeeeeeemly fluffy:
Our Skyy
GMMTV’s idea of a short series and I have to say I am still to this day so grateful that they gave us these bonus rounds for all our favourite pairings. Because yes, Our Skyy is based on the five royal BL couples GMM had back then: We have Singto and Krist, Tay and New, Off and Gun, Chimmon and Pluem and last but certainly not least Frank and Drake.
I mean with so many iconic couples, nothing can go wrong, right?
Our Skyy is pretty much a continuation of all series these five couples have been in. Every episode is about another couple and an issue that they have to face now they are happily together for a while. For Tay and New, well for Pete and Kao, it’s actually even an inbetween episode as their third series Dark Blue Kiss just came out after Our Skyy.
But I can see, it’s already getting complicated for people who might not be as comfortable with the early GMMTV work. So let’s go over it slowly, so everyone is on our page.
The first couple we have are Pick and Rome, played by Off and Gun. They had two series before for these two characters but they were just side characters. Well, side characters that stole the entire show, but I am getting side tracked. Their show was Puppy Honey series one and two.
Next we have Frank and Drake who both played Tee and Mork in the show “Cause You Are My Boy”. They never got a second season which I still think is a crying shame. But the episode of Our Skyy is by far the strongest of the lot, if you ask me.
The next couple we have are Chimmon and Pluem as Sun and In, the long suffering couple that somehow never found together. These two characters appeared first during Dear Loser: Edge of Seventeen. They were also a side couple there which unfortunately didn’t get their happy ever after. But that’s why we got Our Skyy.
The fourth couple we have is again a very iconic couple that has three series for their characters under their belt: Tay and New as Pete and Kao. This Our Skyy episode happens after Kiss Me and before Dark Blue Kiss. So it’s a nice in between between these two series.
And last but not least we have the kings of kings, the legends among BL couples, we have Singto and Krist as Kongpob and Arthit. These two have revolutionised Thai BL together with their roles in Sotus and Sotus S and this episode of Our Skyy is pretty much our last Peraya hurrah. And it’s epic. You have to watch. But with tissues. Lol.
So What Is The Show About?
What happens after the “happily ever after?” Have you ever asked yourself that?
Our Skyy is gonna give you the answer for at least five legendary BL couples, so settle in, get a blanket and something to press to your chest while swooning like a crazy person. Because this show has it all.
Pick and Rome could be so happy. They have been together ever since uni and they even live together now. But somehow things don’t go as smoothly as Pick just can’t stop being a workaholic. After a night full of disappointment and fighting something shocking happens: Both boys wake up in the body of the other. Let Freaky Friday begin….
Mork finally made his dream a reality. He studies medicine (well, dental medicine, but that’s still medicine) and the love of his life Tee is still with him. Everything could be perfect. But a chain reaction of stupid incidents causes Tee to start doubting Mork. Can they get back on track or is this the end?
In is rather desperate. Sun has left and not in a good way. After all this time In now wants to get his man, be brave for once. But once he finds Sun, he is not alone. He is with a good looking stranger and they look very cosy together. Has In destroyed his chances with Sun forever?
University, work, friends, families. Everyone wants to have a piece of Pete and Kao making the time they spend together rather precious. When an old woman predicts that Kaos relationship is gonna fail if he doesn’t follow her instructions, he forces an unhappy Pete to spend the day with him to make sure the curse of their failing relationship is not gonna come true. Again, nothing can go wrong here, right?
Kongpob finally made it. He got into his university of choice after studying like crazy for it. When he gets the result he should be so happy, but knowing he has to leave Arthit behind puts a huge damper on everything. For the last time both want to show each other how much they love each other. But is this the end of the road for these two or can they make it through this somehow?
Why You Might Like It:
If you love GMM productions, you’re gonna love this show. It’s pretty much just a highlight reel of all our favourites and our beloved stories and characters. It’s really like a victory lap at the end of a won competition somehow. I don’t know how much better I can explain this. I mean, I started studying Thai just because of this freaking show. So that should tell you something.
The different stories are all very diverse. We have supernatural elements, we have very classical BL tropes at university but we also get hard hitting realism with long distance relationships and so on. So yeah, the diversity in these stories is amazing and they all make super sense and fit the characters perfectly. I mean, they even finally gave us a happy end for In and Sun. I don’t think I could have survived without knowing what would happen to them.
These are all tried and tested couples that have been together for years and years on end. The chemistry between these guys is no joke. They are such pros and they can get us just with a wink into a proper frenzy. So yeah. You don’t have to worry that maybe one couple won’t be as strong because they are all BL royalty and have been doing their jobs together for a long time.
If you haven’t watched all these shows that Our Skyy is based on then this show is actually a nice way of checking the couples out. You might get curious about one or two of these couples and just watch their original series. I mean, with so much stuff out there, no one can watch everything these days anymore. Especially shows where the gays are just side characters like back then. But Our Skyy gives you a chance to peek at couples you might not be so familiar with. Like Drake and Frank for example.
Why You Might Not Like It:
These are just short one episode stories per each pairing. So don’t expect anything majorly in depth. They just didn’t have the time for it. So yes, I know you will sit like me in front of the telly wailing why this is so short, but it’s still worth a sneak. Because it still adds to the original stories of these couples.
You might not like one couple or you might not like one of the storylines. Since it’s so diverse with so many couples and so many different storylines, there is bound to be a story you might not like as much. So yeah. That might happen.
This is an early GMM production. They don’t do kissing. Let’s just be honest here. They do pecks and that’s it. But it’s what we had at the time and I don’t think it’s necessarily a bad thing. They made the stories so strong that even without much skinship you can enjoy it.
Finale Thoughts:
First thought: Freaking heck, this blog is way too long. Lol.
Second thought: If you have never seen Our Skyy please do. These couples were for YEARS the royal blood of BL actors. They were the olymp of BL at the time and they deserve to be recognised and respected for that. So I think it’s always important to know where you are coming from and as a BL community this is exactly where we are coming from. From these cute and fluffy stories that talk about this all consuming love that makes you happy and sometimes even miserable. So yeah, I would definitely say you should watch this if you have a moment. Because you will not be disappointed. You have such strong couples here. They could read the phone book and any BL fan in the world would lose their shit.
And if you have already seen Our Skyy: Why not watch it again? It reminds me so much of easier times and right now I just want easy and fluffy and that’s it. Lol. So why not take a sip of this wonderful pink milk and travel back in time when the biggest issue we had was going to bed on time to make it out of bed for the next morning and not to watch BL until five in the morning and going to work looking like a zombie.
And with this I think I should just stop here. Because honestly I could just prattle on for the next five hours without finding an end. These five couples were the ones that brought me to Thai BL. They started my obsession with the language and the culture and they are the reason why I HAVE to go to Thailand once before I die. So yeah. You see, i could go on for a while longer, but I shall just shut up here and say one last thing:
