Love Song: Everlast

“This is the goal that keeps me alive… And you are too.”

Hello, hello, my friendly Misfits,

And welcome to Content Team kicking off their usual blogs after a whole month of Pride festivities. And I don’t know about you, but I am still feeling a bit blue that the awesomeness of last month is over and now all the rainbow flags are getting packed away for a year. I am still in such a Pride mood that this song today just really couldn’t fit my mood better then the love song i picked for today. I actually had to search a bit for it because it’s a bit of a different song, but i still get the same feelings when i am listening to it and i am sorry, I am here totally rambling and you can see, that’s fangirl Heart speaking right now. I am so sorry. Let’s try to calm down and do this blog the justice it deserves. Lol.

So first of all let’s name the song I am swooning about today. And that’s

Everlast from Will Van De Crommert.

It’s an instrumental piece that you all might know from this tiny show that GMM made recently called Not Me. Yes, I am talking about the music they played in the background for Sean and White’s first kiss. And I don’t know about you guys, but whenever I listen to this song and see the kiss scene I am getting goose pimples all over and it somehow touches my soul.

I think we all know that Off and Gun are like a force of nature and in Not Me they were both finally able to show what they can do acting wise. It was just such a rollercoaster, but I think what I loved most about the show was the entire setting. We didn’t get the rich kids driving around in big cars for once. We got fighters for a social cause. We got this beautiful and breathtaking scene with the rainbow flag and people chanting for equal rights and opportunities. For me Not Me was a show that revealed that there is still beauty in the fight for a better world. And that love can be found in the most unlikely places.

The world they established during the first couple of episodes was so bleak and dark in a way. It was filled with obstacles and violence and so much suffering. But when we then come to the end of episode eight and Sean and White finally kiss on the rooftop of their observation place it honestly feels like there is finally air to breathe again. It feels like these two are finally above it all. In a place where nothing else counts anymore. Not their fight for justice, not Tawi, not their friends. Everything that counts is the love they have for each other.

And when Everlast starts playing in the background during this scene it honestly feels like utter freedom to me. I have to admit I am struggling finding the right words to describe the feeling that this scene evokes in me, but it’s honestly just pure freedom and love. It makes me believe that love can blossom in the most dire situations. That love can lift you up and make you whole again. This moment when Sean and White finally kiss feels like their entire world finally opens up and a ray of light is shining on them, showing everyone that love will set you free in the end…

Will Van De Crommert btw is actually a musician who does mainly background music for tv and movies. He has worked for quite a few impressive places like Saturday Night Live for example. And I totally think that the choice to use his Everlast in this particular scene just made it all the more perfect. These days I just have to listen to this song and I am transported back to this incredible feeling of freedom and carelessness.

In the end love is really the greatest thing we have in our world. It’s what makes us all tick and it’s what drives us to make this world a better place for all the people we love.
