Hello, hello, my friendly Misfits,
And welcome to even ANOTHER new series of mine. I know I might go slightly bonkers right now, but I really want to go back to blogging and writing in general. So what do I do when I wanna write again? Well, I come up with some stupid ideas and try to post as much as I can. So I hope I won’t be too annoying. I shall try to keep my series as fun as I can.
And this new series is pretty much a bit of a labour of love for me. I am not sure how many of you guys actually know this, but waaaaay before I got into the Asian BL scene, I was already a die hard snogging guys fan. I literally can remember me sitting in front of my VCR recording every snippet of this couple from a German daily soap and watching their scenes on repeat for so long until the tape gave away.
So you definitely could say my love for kissing boys is nothing new and I have been in the game for a few *cough* years. When I recently fell into a bit of a BL slump due to all these ongoing series, I felt myself going back to what I knew and what I had loved before and I started actually going back to some of my favourite soap couples and was binge watching their weird little stories. I really noticed how much I still love these storylines and the characters and I sometimes think that there are not enough people talking about these grassroot characters that were mainstream before BL was even a proper word.
And that’s why I thought I could maybe start to introduce you to different oldschool pairings. Maybe you even give one or two storylines a whirl and see what Europe has to offer in the kissing boys department. And I can definitely tell you, that there is an awful lot.
The first couple I want to introduce to you is Ringo and Easy. These two had a long running storyline for years by now and they are both still active in their soap. They are even still a couple. Shock horror. I know, that’s usually unheard of. But they even have a child these days and they are still just such an adorable couple. Their relationship has definitely been a cluster fuck if I ever have seen it, but for some reason these two always find themselves back in each other’s arms again and heaven, they are such a cute couuuuuple.

Is It Finished Or Still Ongoing?
Both characters are still on the show and are still a couple. But their storyline started literally years ago, so you definitely can still give it a try already.
What Is This Storyline About?
Ringo and Easy couldn’t be more different. Ringo is the resident bad boy, who would even sell his own granny for some money. He has been scheming for years and years and all his relationships always implode sooner or later. And since Ringo is openly bisexual there is a long row of past girls and boys who got their heart broken by the charming but rather ruthless man.
Easy on the other hand is the darling of everyone who meets him. He owns the local off licence and is friends with pretty much everyone. He has a heart of gold and always helps and supports his friends when they are in need. When he finally recognises that he is gay all his friends are just supportive and happy for him.
So no one in their right mind would ever put these two together. Not even as friends. But when Ringo gets the offer from a business partner to help him cheat Easy out of his shop, Ringo takes drastic steps to change that. He forces himself more and more into Easy’s life, hoping the other will finally trust him and therefore fall for Ringo’s trap.
But what Ringo doesn’t even consider is the fact that maybe it’s not Easy who is in danger here. Because the closer Ringo gets to Easy, the more fascinated he is with the other man. It doesn’t take long for Ringo to fall for Easy, hard! But with everything just based on a scheme to get Easy to lose his shop, has this love even a chance to survive?
How Hot Are Talking?
We are talking about early evening television here. But we are also talking about early evening television in Germany. And yes, there is no major skin that is shown, but these two kiss so much. They honestly are such a sweet pairing and the kisses are just out of this world. They are hugging, they are sleeping together in a bed, they kiss… It’s pretty much what you see in every show with a hetero couple as well. So hurray for that. And can I just again mention the kisses? Because they are sooooooo good.
How Did I Like The Pairing?
I totally and utterly adore this pairing. When back in the day Ringo came out as bi I was already totally sold on his character. He is the typical broken character that everyone just wants to heal with their love. I know that this is not how it works in reality usually (well and not in this show either. Poor Easy has definitely his hands full with his morally ambiguous Ringo), but it works here. Easy is just the cutest teddy bear I have ever seen and since he is also a punk I always loved his character. So when he came out as gay…. But I honestly didn’t even dare to dream that Ringo could end up with Easy as they are just so far apart from each other. But when it suddenly became real… Oh boy, did this hit me. It’s honestly such an awesome storyline. It made me cry, it made me laugh, it made me swoon. It’s just a very well done storyline for a daily soap and I can’t explain it, but Ringo and Easy are just like peanut butter and jelly. Both are in itself already awesome characters, but when you put them together something truly magical happens. Believe me. Oh and before I forget. Did I mention the kisses?
Do I Recommend It?
Absolutely. Their storyline is unique but still has a very classic soap feel to it. They are really pushing the boundaries of morals here and how much you should and can forgive in a relationship. It’s really constantly staying interesting and you never know if you truly want to hate Ringo or if you just want to wrap him up in a blanket and force feed him with cookies. If you are new to the entire daily soap meets snogging boys malarky this might be a nice storyline to start with.
Where To Watch?
Okay, this one’s a bit more tricky. Unfortunately Unter Uns runs on a network that is like vultures when it comes to fans and them uploading stuff with subtitles. But there has been a very nice lady uploading most of their storyline onto VK. So if you google VK and Ringo/Easy you should be able to find it. I won’t post a link here as I don’t wanna wake up sleeping dogs. This company is really a menace when it comes to this. So mum’s the word.
And that’s it. My first ever ATGILB done. And yes, this is not a beautiful acronym. But I don’t care. I still love the title and I shall be back with more old school gays and their different storylines. So stay tuned. See you next time.
