Hello, hello my friendly misfits,
And welcome to a slightly different Did You Know on this fine Sunday, but sometimes things happen in life that make some topics more important than others and I think this one is really something that needs to be a bit more known within our community.
I am sure everyone has seen the break up of Leng and Ohm as a ship yesterday. The chat rooms were going crazy, Tumblr was protesting the unfairness and Reddit just analyzed everything that happened and what might happen in future. And of course this brought up one piece of fan lore that has happened a long, long time ago. At least for BL fans a long time ago. Lol. But it explains why Ohm usually doesn’t do stable ships but hops from one partner to the next. Him sticking with Leng was really a surprise which makes the current situation even more heartbreaking. But let me start at the beginning, shall i.
So the year was 2015 when a very young Ohm (just 15 himself) was casted for the role of Frame in Make It Right. His onscreen partner was the 19 years old Toey Sittiwat. The chemistry between these two was just really something and with both young actors being really good at their jobs, it was very early on that their side couple almost overtook the main ship of Make It Right Fuse and Tee. Things went so awesome that they even made a second season which was released in 2017. At this point Ohm is 17 and Toey just 21. And both total newbies to the entertainment world I might wanna add.
So everything looked good. We had this mega cute and successful couple. So what happened? Why did they break up and where is Toey in all of this? Because I am sure not one of you has heard of Toey Sittiwat unless you follow Tul Pakorn’s social media as these two were gym bros. But yes, where did this young and very promising actor disappear to?
The reason for all this was the fans…
Toey fell in love on set. As young actors do. But unfortunately he didn’t fall in love with Ohm, but one of his female co-stars. When this female co-star also got pregnant the whole situation just exploded. Fans were so mad with Toey for dating and even impregnating a WOMAN! How dare he, when he was paired up with one of the cutest actors in BL land. Fans really went wild. They went after Toey, they went after the actress. (I am not gonna name her here as I don’t want to involve her once again, poor lass) The fans even went that far to wish that they would lose the baby as clearly the only reason the actress could be pregnant was to baby trapp poor Toey so he couldn’t stay with this beloved Ohm.
I don’t think I have to explain to you how utterly disgusting and wrong this kind of behaviour is. I can even remember years later, when Toey announced their separation online, that fans were still going crazy, saying that Toey and their little daughter could now finally be happy with Ohm. By that time Ohm was already under contract with GMMTV and Toey had left the spotlight all together.
Because yes, the fandom actually managed to bully Toey out of acting. He has never been in another production again and he has really given up on acting all together. There is not a lot known about him at this point I think (maybe in Thai, but not in the english speaking realm), other that he has appeared a few times in other BL actors social media posts. But otherwise he really has disappeared.
And here is where this is really making me all so mad with the whole Leng and Ohm situation. So we have here Ohm, who was mega young and new to the business when his acting partner was bullied so badly by their own fans that he left acting completely! I can’t even begin to imagine how this must have felt for a boy of 17 who had no experience in this field beforehand. I am sure the entire situation was not just hard for Toey and his girlfriend, but also for Ohm.
Ever since he has never been in a stable ship again. He just has been doing one series or one movie with a partner and then moves on. And who can blame him. He has seen what happens when the fandom goes crazy and delulu and he knows who quick things can escalate to utter insanity. So for him to agree to stick with Leng for two more projects after their first series really was proof for me that Ohm was willing to let bygones be bygones and really give it a try again. And what happened? Once more the fandom bullied his partner to the point where they had to be separated. I pray to all deities above that poor Leng is not following in Toey’s footsteps because it pains me so much to see what our fandom can do to people.
We are not always just the ones to celebrate and elevate our actors. We can also be the ones causing massive stress and mental health struggles and sometimes we even end a career. I am just so disappointed to see what the fandom has done once more and I hope that Ohm doesn’t decide that he has finally had enough of toxic and disrespectful BL fans and might just stay away. We already lost an awesome actor in Toey. I hope we are not also losing Ohm.
So yeah, I just thought I would bring this little nugget of knowledge a bit back to the forefront of people’s memories as this is gonna have such a huge impact on what’s gonna follow from here on out. I usually don’t like writing up these kinds of scandals as I almost always believe it’s better to be kept in the past. But when the past starts to repeat itself… Maybe we need to look a bit closer and maybe we also need to check ourselves once in a while to make sure we are not drifting off too far into delulu land. Because we can see what happens and it’s just not pretty for anyone.
