RIP Sunset Vibes

Hello, hello my friendly Misfits

And welcome to another little series of mine. RIP in this case actually doesn’t mean the usual “Rest In Peace”, but rather “Review In Progress”. In this series I want to just collect a few of my thoughts on shows that are still running. When I usually write a review or a recommendation I have seen the entire series or movie, but sometimes I just have too many things on my mind while watching an ongoing series and this RIP is gonna be the place for me to rant over all these shows that are making my blood boil or my heart sing. Either way… As long as it’s moving me I am here for it.

And this already brings us to today’s first entry to this series. I have to say I am still surprised that THIS show in particular made me write again, but what can I say. It’s Mos and Bank and Sunset Vibes. Of course I am watching and of course they are doing things with my heart. We are talking Mos and Bank here after all. But I have to admit that they are moving my heart for absolutely the wrong reasons at the moment and it’s honestly driving me insane.

I am a big, big fan of Mos and Bank and I absolutely have nothing to say about their chemistry and the way they act together. It’s perfection to me and it’s the only reason why I am still hanging in there. Because what the freaking duck is this storyline??? Who thought this was a good idea?

I mean, what are we even watching here? Two kids of obscenely rich people are doing nepotism stuff? Is it a university show? Is it a workplace show? Is it about jewellery? Is it about industrial spying and crime? Or, and i can’t believe I am saying it last, because come on… you advertised us this crap as fantasy or supernatural. But what are you giving us here??? Like seriously.

The production said from the beginning that it’s gonna be supernatural but where is it? I have found out more about Lin’s nightmares from the cover text on IQIYI then after watching every episode so far. And now last week this absolutely horrendous walking into the water??? Like what the hell? Oh, my blood pressure is rising again. Take a deep breath, Heart, take a deep breath.

But seriously. So far they have done such an awful job at telling this story. It’s so incoherent and you honestly think nothing is happening at all. The story is just moving forward in such a slow and boring manner and all the important bits seem to just be somewhere between the lines or I have no idea… I honestly can’t marry the description of this series with what I am seeing and that is really not a good look.

But let me move on to something else… This obscene show of wealth. Like what are you trying here? I honestly don’t get this anymore. Yes, Mos is doing the best he can given the situation… But how is the poor guy supposed to be like this international rich gentleman of perfect breeding when he doesn’t even get a suit that fits his long limbs? And don’t even get me started on Bank who seemingly is wearing the wardrobe of some 70ties Italo gangster who moonlights in a swingers club. I just don’t get it. Oh, and if you wanna put people on a horse… Just saying.. Don’t let the horse run without anyone holding the reins. Yes, you did a good job in keeping the poor lad who had to walk these two around the compound out of the frames, but it’s so clear that they are getting paraded around the garden by someone else instead of our worldly gentleman showing his abilities to his young lover. Like at least let him hold the freaking reins!

Also… If you want to depict office life and how people behave at work… This show is doing such a shitty job with it. Just the way these interns are behaving for example. Like yelling and celebrating loudly during a meeting with your superiors. Or that scene when they walked into this major company event and behaved like they were all kindergartners being in this environment for the first time. And to then find out that Lin’s dad is actually the owner of said hotel… I seriously facepalmed myself at that moment. Because it makes Lin’s reaction to walking into this hotel even more stupid. He must have been there a million times. He must know these kinds of business events inside out as the son of such a successful businessman. So yeah, sure. Make me believe that someone like that is walking in a row like ducklings, holding each other’s arms because they are so scared. Jesus. For heaven’s sake. Just let it make sense.

But let me come to the last point of my little rant. And that’s how freakin obvious this entire plot is. You literally can smell everything in advance. When they went to Hong Kong it was so clear that it would be Sun coming with him. And now it’s so clear who the spy in the company is and what else is gonna transpire. So the little plot that we have is also so freaking thin that we all know what’s gonna happen anyway.

And just one last question to the room… Is it just me who has to gag everytime Lin says Khun Dad? No? Okay, then it’s just me. But no, it’s disgusting and you can’t tell me otherwise. Yes, it might be a kink that some people have and that’s totally fine with me. But just because some people are into poo doesn’t mean I wanna hear someone call their partner little turd. Just saying..

So what is my conclusion here? That we are having another show where everything could be perfect. You have the proper actors, you have the budget as the backdrops and sceneries are just totally beautiful. You even have a couple that usually could read the phone book and their fans would be smitten. But seriously. This is the only saving grace I can find here. Without Mos and Bank every sane viewer would have stopped watching after the second episode. Which is honestly such a huge shame. Both Mos and Bank are decent actors and the chemistry between these two definitely helps covering any weaknesses they might still have. I mean they are both still so young and inexperienced. So I wouldn’t mind these small flaws they have. But given this absolut dumpster fire of a plot… It’s really hard to not just give up on this series.

I honestly hope that Mos and Bank will get another project that is better suited for them. Give them something to do. Like a proper plot with some depth. You have two young actors who wanna show what they can do. And right now we just have not even a mediocre series on our hands. Which is just so, so sad. I mean, let’s be honest. Big Dragon was not the best storyline wise either. It had plot holes so big, even my fattest tomcat would pass through comfortably. But we all were kind and looked the other way as Mos and Bank and their incredible chemistry had us all wrapped around the little finger. But this time the plot is even weaker than before and at what point do we just admit that even Mos and Bank can save this pile of unpleasantness anymore…

I really hope this show is still getting on the right track but I am losing hope. Maybe we can just wait and see what their next project is gonna be like and pray that this time the plot is not again this weak. Just give them something to do for a change. Just for once I want to see Mos and Bank in a proper production with a proper plot and story writing. With no plot holes or too short sleeves in sight…
